What is Truly Eco-friendly Coating?

Types of Eco-friendly Coatings

The main types of eco-friendly coatings currently include:

How to Choose Eco-friendly Coatings?

1. UV Curing Coatings
   • Advantages: Rapid curing, high efficiency, energy-saving, solvent-free.
   • Disadvantages: Strong odor and toxicity of volatile monomers, requires specialized equipment, not suitable for complex workpieces, limited coating thickness, especially for colored paints.
   • Application Areas: Mostly used in wood coatings, crafts, and advertising packaging, with significant industrial application limitations.
2. Powder Coatings
   • Advantages: Solvent-free, odorless, recyclable, high production line efficiency, excellent corrosion resistance.
   • Disadvantages: Complex equipment and processes, high energy consumption, not suitable for complex or non-metal workpieces.
   • Application Areas: Industrial anti-corrosion fields, replacing some high solid/solvent-free coatings in heavy anti-corrosion applications.

3. Water-based Coatings
   • Advantages: Dilutable with water, high safety.
   • Disadvantages: High requirements for substrates and environment, wastewater and waste treatment needed, high energy consumption for baking in some applications.
   • Application Areas: Building, furniture, and some light industrial anti-corrosion fields.
4. Conventional High Solid Content Coatings
   • Advantages: Lower cost, lower VOC.
   • Disadvantages: Slow drying, high application viscosity, generally suitable only for thick coatings, High hardness and brittleness.
   • Application Areas: Mainly used in heavy anti-corrosion fields.
5. Polyaspartic Polyurea Coatings
   • Advantages: Low VOC, fast drying, highly efficient, solvent-free thick or thin coating, cures at ultra-low temperatures, excellent tensile performance, outstanding overall performance.
   • Disadvantages: High material cost, higher product price.
   • Application Areas: Widely used in industrial anti-corrosion, adhesives, waterproofing, flooring, and increasingly favored in high-end markets.

It is evident that polyaspartic polyurea coatings exhibit the best overall performance among eco-friendly coatings. They offer significant environmental advantages such as no wastewater treatment requirements, substantial energy savings for large workpiece coatings, temperature insensitivity, ease of all-season application, thick coatings reducing labor and application costs, weather resistance, temperature variation resistance, wear resistance, and impact resistance.
